Coach Lisa Grass has been passionate about soccer for as long as she can remember. She played competitively in her youth with Ajax Soccer Club and continued her playing career in the OWSL and at Centennial College. After graduating, her college coach, Coach Diamond, invited her to support the women’s team in a coaching role—an opportunity that sparked her growing passion for coaching.
Lisa loves the game for its ability to bring together players with different styles and strengths to form successful teams. For her, there’s nothing more rewarding than watching a group grow together and form lasting friendships through the sport.
Coach Lisa joined the Barrie Cardinals in 2024 with her children, participating in the 2016 and 2020 house league programs. She values the Cardinals’ commitment to supporting multi-sport athletes at a young age and is excited to continue investing in young players—both on and off the field—as a coach with the U9 HDSL team this season.
Coach James Fisher has been immersed in the world of soccer since the age of seven—as a player, coach, and lifelong fan of the game. Like many of our young Cardinals, he began his journey in a grassroots program in Bradford, Ontario. Through dedication and development, he earned a spot on the Bradford Eagles FC competitive team, competing in the Central Soccer League across the GTA.
Now at 40, James continues to play in the East Gwillimbury Men’s League during the summer and with the Barrie Cardinals men’s indoor team in the winter. His love for the game remains as strong as ever.
As a coach, James brings over 15 years of experience, primarily working with U11 players in Toronto, where he also teaches. His coaching accomplishments include leading one team to a City of Toronto Championship and guiding four others to finalist finishes. With great enthusiasm, he now brings his passion and experience to the Barrie Cardinals U9 HDSL team, eager to support the next generation of players.
A devoted fan, James continues to cheer on his childhood club, Arsenal FC, in the English Premier League, and Toronto FC in the MLS. Just like our Cardinals… RED FOR LIFE!

I am an avid fitness & nutrition professional who is passionate about helping others become their best versions of themselves. I’m a natural caregiver at heart; whether that be simply holding a door open for a stranger or caring for patients in my former career as a healthcare worker. Now as a full-time stay at home-homeschooling mom I spend most of my time teaching and guiding my children, which has led me to believe that children learn best from experience and from their own natural curiosity in the world around them. It’s cliche but truly being a mother, teaching my children day to day, doing life together is exactly what God intended for me to do and I can not wait to naturally share my passions of health and fitness with other families within our community while creating lifelong relationships.

As many of you may have already noticed, it’s safe to say that soccer is a passion for “Coach Guz”. David grew up in the Keele & Eglinton area and played in various countries around the world as a professional. He now resides in Barrie with his wife Amy and two children, Toryne and Savannah. Coach Guz is incredibly grateful and appreciative for the opportunities and experiences he’s had because of the beautiful game.
“I am very fortunate for the experiences I’ve had in my life as a result of my dedication to soccer. Being able to represent my country at a young age, playing against some of the best youth in the world, receive a Division 1 scholarship to a top university in the US and play for TFC in their first year of existence! It was amazing! I am very blessed! This is why we created the Barrie Cardinals; in hopes that through our experience we can inspire, motivate and guide the youth of our city and beyond, to grow into amazing young adults!”
SOME OF COACH GUZMAN’S ACHIEVEMENTS:
Toronto FC & Chicago Fire (MLS) – Played in the USL Professional Development League during university off-seasons. After completing his junior year, Coach David was signed by Toronto FC in its inaugural MLS season, recording 6 goals and 1 assist in the reserve league. He also appeared in a friendly match against Portuguese giants S.L. Benfica.
